Job Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Assist customers in selecting a vehicle by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses.
  • Suggest alternative vehicles if necessary.
  • Provide thorough product information and demonstrations to all prospects.
  • Offer test drives to all prospects and follow dealership procedures for proper identification.
  • Utilize dealership sales control and follow-up systems.
  • Understand federal, state, and local laws governing retail auto sales.

We are seeking a driven and organized Assistant Service Manager to help lead daily operations in a high-volume, fast-paced automotive service department. This role is critical in maintaining workflow efficiency, leading Service Advisors, and delivering an exceptional customer experience from vehicle intake through repair completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all daily service lane operations, ensuring efficient vehicle intake and smooth workflow from write-up through dispatch
  • Supervise and coach Service Advisors to maintain consistent processes, strong communication, and effective upsell performance
  • Monitor appointment scheduling vs. shop capacity to optimize technician productivity and avoid overload or downtime
  • Ensure repair orders are accurate and complete, and oversee dispatching based on technician skillset and availability
  • Maintain proper workload distribution across all technician levels (diagnostic, heavy line, general repair, and quick service)
  • Proactively communicate with customers regarding vehicle status, recommendations, and delays
  • Drive customer satisfaction (CSI) by resolving concerns quickly and professionally
  • Collaborate with the Shop Foreman, Parts Department, and Service Management to ensure efficient repair flow
  • Track and manage with the Shop foreman key metrics including RO count, hours per RO, technician efficiency, and productivity
  • Enforce consistent Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection (MPVI) processes with the Shop Foreman to maximize service opportunities
  • Review declined repairs and identify opportunities to recover sales and “save the deal”
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional service drive
  • Assist in hiring, training, and developing service lane staff
  • Conduct monthly coaching sessions with advisors to improve performance and accountability

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an automotive service department (Advisor, Dispatcher, or leadership role preferred)
  • Strong understanding of service lane workflow and repair order processes
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with dealership/shop management systems preferred
